What is the scope of discussions?
Supervisees bring many issues, but they can generally be summarised as:
- challenging clients/ situations
- workplace/ organisational/ managerial issues
- career directions/ professional development
What is Darryl’s approach to supervision?
Darryl uses a combination of integrative developmental and solution-oriented approaches, and skills as a consultant, teacher, counsellor and mentor. He aims above all, to be a supportive colleague. Building rapport and honest communication are key goals.
What is the value of Professional Supervision?
Supervisees report benefits from debriefing, improved efficiency and morale, gaining new strategies, exploring new areas of professional growth, and increased clarity about work and career issues.
How often should I have supervision?
Usually monthly, or as arranged.
How does external supervision differ from line management supervision?
In situations where workers are managed by a line manager not of their profession, external supervision assists in safeguarding service to clients. It also allows staff to discuss freely and devise solutions to problems not easily raised with a manager responsible for staff appraisal, financial constraints and output requirements. External supervision complements, and in no sense replaces, line management supervision.
Is external supervision more important for regional workers?
There is considerable evidence that relative geographic and professional isolation, heavy caseloads, difficulty in balancing professional roles and community profiles, and limitations on organisational support and reflection time, mean that regional workers have a particular need for external supervision.
How is supervision offered?
- On site, in Melbourne and Ballarat
- By telephone or Zoom
- In your community, as arranged
Some supervisees prefer face-to-face, others by telephone, or a combination.
Do you offer other services?
While providing regular professional supervision and support is my main function, counselling, mentoring and consultancy can also be offered by arrangement.
